This was a fun weekend breakdown of sports even though we are still dealing with the pandemic. Covid 19 is getting worse all over North America and is impacting everyones lives. The sporting world is not immune and it affects it daily like it permeates every facet of society.
We went into great detail of week 13 of the NFL. There was a shocking upset of the Seattle Seahawks who were 8 and 3 heading into a battle with the New York Giants who were 4 and 7. The G men won 17 to 12 to get their fourth straight victory and solidify their spot as top in the NFC East. This was the first win for any NFC East team over an opponent who was over .500 on the season. The top of the NFC West was Seattle's alone before this game and now the Rams are the front runner as they beat the Arizona Cardinals 38 to 28. The other upset of the weekend was Cleveland beating the Tennessee Titans 41 to 35 to push their record to 9 and 3 for the firt time since 1994. It was the Browns first four game winning streak since 2009. There was a lot of great games and a great breakdown of the week.
The NBA was discussed briefly as we talked about the trade of Russell Westbrook from Houston to Washington for John Wall. It was probably a good deal for both teams especially if Wall is able to bounce back from his long term injury troubles. We talked about the impact Covid is already having on the league as there have been 52 positive Covid tests already in the association. It led to the Portland Trailblazers shutting down their facility after 4 positive test results happened today.
The UFC Vegas 16 took place on Saturday and the main event was an amazing tough 5 round battle in the Middleweight division. It was #4 ranked Jack Hermansson against #12 ranked Marvin Vettori in an all out war. The Italian Dream Vettori had a decisive victory winning 4 of 5 rounds and getting his hand raised with a unanimous decision. He should be ranked now in the top 5 and could be in line for another crack at the champ Israel Adesanya again after just one more convincing win. The rest of the card was impacted as two fights were postponed because of Covid and another cancelled at the last minute.
The combat sports continued on Saturday as the huge A T & T stadium in Arlington, Texas was host to boxing. The main event was a fight for the WBC and IBF World Welterweight Championships between the Champ Errol Spence Jr. and Danny Garcia. Spence stayed near the top of the best pound for pound discussion with a dominating victory that was very anticlimatic. Spence used a lethal jab to get the seemingly easy victory. This sets up a titanic battle with Terrence "Bud" Crawford to finally unify the best division in boxing. Enjoy our breakdown of the card and the discussion of the future of the sport.
Enjoy,
Take care,
